Becoming the victim of a burglary may seem inconceivable until you actually become one. Unfortunately, no matter how safe you think your home is, there is always the chance that it might get burglarized. Did you know that most burglaries happen during the day and without any forced entry whatsoever? Here are some tips to make sure that your home stays protected from burglars:

* Keep your doors and windows locked at all times. This might seem like a very simple thing to do but a lot of homeowners overlook this simple rule. Whether you are just going out for a very short time, be sure to lock your doors and windows before you leave.
* Destroy boxes of electronics, appliances and other expensive items. Burglars can gauge the worth of your home by going through your garbage. If your garbage contains boxes and containers of expensive possessions like laptops or flat-screen TVs, a burglar is sure to be tempted to break into your home.
* Put a peephole on your door. A lot of burglars do not try to enter your home in secret, some of them simply knock on your door pretending to be some else – a bill collector, a repairman or even a police officer. Never let a stranger into your home unless you are sure of his identity and purpose.
