Keeping your child’s bedroom clean and clutter-free is one of the most challenging tasks that you will have to do around the house. Once he grows up as a teen, you can discipline your kid by giving him the responsibility of keeping his own room clean. However, while your child is still small, the job basically falls on you. Here are some suggestions to make sure that your child grows up valuing orderliness.
One of the most common items that can really mess up a kid’s room is clothing. If your child’s bedroom has dozens of pants on the floor, underwear spilling out of the drawers and shirts hanging on the back of every chair then you might want to devote some time to take an inventory of these clothes. You might be surprised to find that half of your kids’ clothes are already too small or are not being worn for some reason. Make a pile for these clothes and give them to charity instead. Be sure you consult your kid before you get rid of any item. You don’t want to be the culprit for the loss of his favorite Megatron t-shirt.
The next thing to do would be to make sure that your child learns to clean up his room by himself by making some adjustments. For instance, lower the rod on his closet and make sure everything is accessible to him.
You might also want to invest in new storage materials such as colorful bins where he can put his toys and another one for dirty clothes. Child-sized shelves are also great for books, board games and CDs.
