Decorating your first apartment is without a doubt one of the most exciting moments in anyone’s life. Now that you finally have a space of your own, you can’t wait to express your personality through your new living quarters. However, before you start buying cans of paint and shopping in every flea market in town, here are some things that you need to consider first.

o What are your rental limitations? If you don’t know, ask your landlord first. For instance, you might want to tear down that wall in the kitchen but does your rental contract allow it?
o Ask yourself how long you are planning to live in your new apartment. Spending thousands of dollars decorating the place may not be a good idea if you’re just planning to live there for a couple of years.
o What type of activities do your normally do in your home? For instance, do you often do a lot of arts and crafts? Do you enjoy curling up in a corner to read your favorite book? Answering this question will allow you to dedicate spaces for your favorite activities.
o If you happen to be living with your spouse or partner, you might also want to determine if you plan to have children so you can also take this into account while planning for your decoration.
