One of the things that you can do to give your living room an elegant appeal is to hang a painting on the wall to serve as a focal point. Hang it on top of the couch or the fireplace to make sure that it grabs the attention of any person who enters the room. When it comes to the fabric design of your furniture, it’s usually a great idea to have some fun and mix in a couple of bold patterns like animal prints or floral. However, be sure to keep the prints to a minimum or your living room will look like a wild jungle. Instead, choose a solid-colored base for the room and dot with the occasional print.

If you’re quite the historical buff, you might also consider putting in a mural in your living room. If you have a large living room, consider having the mural take over an entire wall for a dramatic effect.

If you have a smaller home where the dining room seems to be a continuation of the living room then you might want to install a divider like a low counter or a Japanese divider.
